Function of the DIRECT SELECT lever

WARNING Risk of accident due to incorrect gearshifting

If the engine speed is higher than the idle speed and you engage the transmission position Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever or Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever, the vehicle may accelerate sharply.

WARNING Risk of accident and injury due to children left unattended in the vehicle

If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle, they could, in particular:

  • open doors, thereby endangering other persons or road users.
  • get out and be struck by oncoming traffic.
  • operate vehicle equipment and become trapped, for example.

In addition, the children could also set the vehicle in motion, for example by:

  • releasing the parking brake.
  • changing the transmission position.
  • starting the vehicle.

Use the DIRECT SELECT lever to switch the transmission position. The current transmission position is displayed in the multifunction display.

Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever upwards past the first point of resistance.

Engaging neutral N

Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever up or down to the first point of resistance.

To shift into neutral Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever with the ignition on, push the selector lever up or down for several seconds to the first point of resistance.

Subsequently releasing the brake pedal will allow you to move the vehicle freely, e.g. to push it or tow it away.

Proceed as follows if you want the automatic transmission to remain in neutral Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever, even if the ignition is switched off or the driver's door is opened:

If you then exit the vehicle leaving the SmartKey in the vehicle, the automatic transmission remains in neutral Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever.

When the transmission position display shows Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever, the park position is engaged. If no transmission position display Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever appears, secure the vehicle to prevent it from rolling away.

Depending on the situation, it may take a short time until Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever is engaged. Therefore, always pay attention to the transmission position display.

Park position Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever is engaged automatically if one of the following conditions is met:

  • You switch off the ignition when the vehicle is stationary and the transmission position is Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever or Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever.
  • You open the driver's door when the vehicle is at a standstill or when driving at a very low speed and the transmission position is Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever or Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever.

To maneuver with an open driver's door, open the driver's door while at a standstill and engage transmission position Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever or Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever again.

Engaging drive position D

Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever down past the first point of resistance.

When the automatic transmission is in transmission position Mercedes-Benz GLC. DIRECT SELECT lever, it shifts the gears automatically. This depends, among other things, on the following factors:

  • The selected drive program
  • The position of the accelerator pedal
  • The driving speed
