Function of the DIRECT SELECT lever

WARNING Risk of accident due to incorrect gearshifting

If the engine speed is higher than the idle speed and you engage the transmission position or , the vehicle may accelerate sharply.

If you engage the transmission position or when the vehicle is at a standstill, always depress the brake pedal firmly and do not accelerate at the same time.

WARNING Risk of accident and injury due to children left unattended in the vehicle

If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle, they could, in particular:

• open doors, thereby endangering other persons or road users.
• get out and be struck by oncoming traffic.
• operate vehicle equipment and become trapped, for example.

In addition, the children could also set the vehicle in motion, for example by:

• releasing the parking brake.
• changing the transmission position.
• starting the vehicle.

Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.

When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.

Keep the vehicle SmartKey out of reach of children.

Use the DIRECT SELECT lever to switch the transmission position. The current transmission position is displayed in the multifunction display.

Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever upwards past the first point of resistance.

Engaging neutral N

Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever up or down to the first point of resistance.

To shift into neutral with the ignition on, push the selector lever up or down for several seconds to the first point of resistance.

Subsequently releasing the brake pedal will allow you to move the vehicle freely, e.g. to push it or tow it away.

Proceed as follows if you want the automatic transmission to remain in neutral , even if the ignition is switched off or the driver's door is opened:

Depress the brake pedal and engage neutral when the vehicle is at a standstill.

Release the brake pedal.

Switch the ignition off.

If you then exit the vehicle leaving the SmartKey in the vehicle, the automatic transmission remains in neutral .

Engaging park position P

Observe the notes on parking the vehicle.

Depress the brake pedal until the vehicle comes to a standstill.

When the vehicle is at a standstill, press button .

When the transmission position display shows , the park position is engaged. If no transmission position display appears, secure the vehicle to prevent it from rolling away.

Depending on the situation, it may take a short time until is engaged. Therefore, always pay attention to the transmission position display.

Park position is engaged automatically if one of the following conditions is met:

• You switch off the ignition when the vehicle is stationary and the transmission position is or .
• You open the driver's door when the vehicle is at a standstill or when driving at a very low speed and the transmission position is or .

To maneuver with an open driver's door, open the driver's door while at a standstill and engage transmission position or again.

Engaging drive position D

Depress the brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECT lever down past the first point of resistance.

When the automatic transmission is in transmission position , it shifts the gears automatically. This depends, among other things, on the following factors:

• The selected drive program
• The position of the accelerator pedal
• The driving speed
